AXX155E
Converged Broadband Access Device
The AXX155E is an Integrated Access Device for use in fibre
optic networks. The AXX155E combine IP- and TDM-traffic, by running
IP- along with TDM-channels inside an SDH STM-1 frame structure that can be easily carried across the
network. The bandwidth of the IP-channel is configurable up to 136
Mb/s. The IP part of the AXX155E consists of a L2/L3 switch.
Each E1 interface, up to 12, is mapped into a VC-12 container while the Ethernet traffic is mapped into a configurable number of VC-12
containers.
The AXX155E has a slot for plug-in modules supporting different features
e.g. upgrade to four WAN ports on the aggregate side or a VPN
accelerator. The WAN madule gives the possibility ta allocate bandwidth per LAN part and to pravide a paint ta multipaint
application.
AXX155E is compatible with all AXXESSIT manage-ment solutions, ranging from the simple craft tools to the powerful AXXTMN unified management
tools. In addition, management integration is a key feature, with direct SNMP integration ta standard manager
tools, or high-level integration via AXXMEDIATDR solutions.
Main benefits
Price/performance :
AXX155E will provide a powerful and cost effective way to drive an evolution from service-dedicated, circuit-switched narrowband networks, to service-integrated, packet-switched
networks.
Flexibility:
Many applications covered by one unit.
- Point-to-point
- Point-to-multipoint
- Multipoint-to-multipoint
- Bandwidth allocation per LAN port for multi-tenant units
Granularity:
Provisioning of IP bandwidth is obtained by using a number of VC-12 containers (1 to 50) in an inverse multiplexing scheme. All G3 VC-12 containers may be used for IP traffic if more than one WAN channel are used.
Density:
AXX155E is only 1U high, providing great port density per
rack.
Protection:
Link protection possible by duplication of optical - or electrical aggregate interface.
Operation/Maintenance:
An SNMP agent supervises both the LAN and TDM ports. This agent can be accessed either by means of a CLI, Command Line Interface or from a JAVA
application.

Features
LAN interlaces
The Layer 2 bridge (switch) is a transparent remote multi-port Ethernet bridge. The bridge consists of four LAN interfaces and up to four WAN interfaces. The four WAN interfaces are not only enabling the point-to-multipoint function, but also "QoS on Layer 1". The LAN interfaces supports 10/100 BaseT for UTP cables. Both
10Mbit/s and 100Mbit/s are supported with auto-negotiation. The bridge supports the following features:
- MAC multicast
- Full IEEE 802.1q VLAN tagging
- Spanning Tree Protocol (STP)
- Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP) acc. to IEEE
802.1w
- Tunneling of IEEE 802.1q packets (QinQ)
- STP per VLAN acc. to IEEE 802.1s
- IEEE 802.1p priorities
The filtering rate of the bridge is able to operate at full wire speed, but the forwarding rate is limited by the selected WAN channels speed, up to 136Mbit/s.
The hardware platform can be upgraded by SW download to support IP and IPX routing, with the below routing protocols:
- RIPvl and RIPv2
- OSPF
Layer 2 and Layer 3 QoS and multicast routing (IGMPv2) are also included. Full wire speed routing is possible, again, only limited by the selected WAN channel speed.
TDM interlaces
The AXX155 has twelve physical interfaces that support transparent data (G.703) and ISDN PRA. All twelve interfaces can be configured individually. The interfaces support 120
Om. operation. 75 Om operation is supported by use of an external balun.
WAN interlace
The WAN interface is SDH based and the IP-traffic is mapped into SDH containers together with TDM-traffic for transport to the other end system. Different WAN speeds can be achieved either by a proprietary flexible mapping scheme or by Virtual Concatenation with Generic Frame Protocol (GFP) and LCAS. The IP-traffic is mapped into one VC-12 container or a number of VC-12 containers. The AXX155E supports several different optical interfaces, a standard dual fiber interface (S1.1) for Single Mode fiber and Multi Mode fiber, a Long Haul optical interface and a proprietary single-fiber interface. As option the optical interface can be replaced by an electrical
STM-1e interface. Two aggregate interfaces can be used for protection. Protection schemes are MSP 1+1 and SNC/I.
